The Project

Dana recently contacted us after buying herself a brand new Wooden Summerhouse. Made from 100% timber and with glass panes along the front of the summerhouse to allow in lots of natural light, her new garden building needed a suitable base to support and prolong its life. After searching online Dana came across our fully recycled plastic base and after reading up on its qualities ordered a 12ft x 8ft Plastic Base the same day!

Read on to see how she installed her base and summerhouse;

The Work

Dana already knew where she wanted her summerhouse to be stood so began her work by measuring out 12ft x 8ft in the designated area and outlined the area using string. Dana then began removing a small amount of existing soil to give the base a small ‘hole’ to sit within.

With the removed soil disposed of responsibly Dana then laid a layer of Shed Base Membrane in the excavated area and secured it into the ground using Membrane Staples to ensure there was no movement before the base was installed. Membrane is used to act as a shield to stop weeds and plants from growing up and through the base.

After the membrane was secured Dana began installing her base, she started in one corner and laid one panel at a time simply connecting them together using the specially designed slot and peg system. This was by far the easiest part of the job Dana told us.

Finally, with the base installed, Dana filled the entire base with decorative gravel to create a french drain system. Around 8kg of gravel is needed to fill each individual shed base panel. Then on top of the base, Dana installed and secured her brand new summerhouse!
