Garden Base

6ft x 4ft Plastic Shed Base Installed Under A Fearnwood Products Shed

This case study comes from Peter who purchased a 6ft x 4ft Shed from Fearnwood Products who are based in Benfleet. His new shed was going to be erected on his allotment, however, there is a rule that concrete bases cannot be installed on the site. This lead on to Peter requiring an alternative base that was not permanent and could be relocated or removed should it be needed.

Selecting Your Plastic Shed Base

Peter began researching online in order to find a suitable alternative to a concrete shed base. He looked around and found our fully recycled plastic shed bases and began browsing at their many benefits. These include; lightweight; strong (420 tonnes per m²); durability; easy to install; permeable and weather resistant.

After discovering the benefits of our Shed Bases, Peter was happy it met his requirements to be installed on his allotment. Peter then ordered a 6ft x 4ft Plastic Shed Base which was dispatched and delivered to his home within 3 working days.

Plastic Shed Base Installation

Peter recieved his items and began work the following day. Using the included installation guide, Peter was easily able to complete the installation quickly and on his own.

He started by removing the top layer of grass and soil to leave an exposed layer of soil. Because the allotment was already flat, no leveling work had to take place. On top of the soil, Peter laid a membrane to stop weeds and plants growing up through the base whilst letting water and nutrients drain away naturally.

With the membrane in place, Peter began installation on his Plastic Shed Base. Laying one panel at a time, Peter started in one corner and work his way along and connected them together using the panels specially designed slot and peg system. This process was repeated until the entire area was covered.

Next, Peter needed to fill the base with up to 20mm gravel. Around 8kg of gravel is required to fill one panel of your base, so it’s easy to work out how much gravel is roughly needed for an entire base.

Finally, all that was left for Peter to do was to wait for Fearnwood to deliver and erect his shed onto his base.

Conclusion

Thank you to Peter for sharing the details and photos of his Shed Base installation.  The base and shed look amazing and are a great addition to his allotment.

Peter said: “The plastic shed base is a great product and our shed is fantastic, we are really pleased with results!”
