8ft x 6ft Forest Garden Shed & Plastic Base Installation

This case study comes from Phil who had recently purchased a Forest Garden Shed and was looking for a suitable base to install on to a soil area. Having looked at using concrete, Phil knew a lot of ground preparation and labour intensive work would need to be carried out to install the base on to his current surface. So instead of settling for concrete, Phil decided to research to find an alternative solution.

Finding A Plastic Shed Base

Phil started browsing the internet to find an alternative shed base solution. After a quick search online, Phil came across our website and our fully recycled plastic shed base. He began reading up on its many benefits such as being easy to install, strong (can hold up to 420 tonnes per sqm), permeable and UV & weather resistant.

Phil decided that our base would be the best foundation for his new shed and ordered an 8ft x 6ft plastic shed base kit.

8ft x 6ft Forest Garden Shed & Base Installation - Turf & Soil Excavated

Installing 8ft x 6ft Shed Base & Shed

Phil’s shed base order was received, dispatched and delivered to his home within 3 working days.

He began his installation by measuring an 8ft x 6ft area and marking it out using string. From here he began digging out a small layer of existing turf and soil to leave an exposed soil surface on to which his base would be installed.

Before laying his base, Phil rolled out his membrane and fitted it into his now excavated area. To temporarily secure the sheet Phil used bricks to ensure it would not move when walked on or the wind blew.

On top of the now secure membrane, Phil began laying his plastic shed base. He started in one corner and laid one panel at a time whilst removing the bricks holding the membrane in place. When he laid neighbouring panels, he simply connected them together using the specially designed slot and peg system. This process was repeated until the entire base had been laid and took not time at all.

The penultimate step was to fill the base with gravel, around 8kg of gravel is required to fill each panel so you can roughly work out how much gravel you require for your entire area.

Finally, with his base complete, all that was left to do was to wait for Forest Garden to delivery his new shed and have it installed on to his new plastic base!

Conclusion

Phil is very pleased with the outcome of his new 8ft x 6ft plastic shed base and Forest Garden shed. The installation was far easier than using concrete which would have taken much longer to install and then taken time to dry and cure too.

A big thanks to Phil for sharing the photos of his installation to allow us to create this case study. If you have images of your project to share then please do not hesitate to contact us and your shed could be featured on our site.
